The Choral Foundation opens the 2007-2008 season as our Atlanta-based William Baker Festival Singers perform classics from Renaissance to Contemporary, along with a new collection of exciting spirituals. The program includes classic works by di Lasson, Bach and Hassler, modern works by Whitacre and Nystedt, along with a rousing collection of spirituals and gospel songs arranged by Moses Hogan, Robert DeCormier and Larry Fleming.

Benjamin Britten: REJOICE IN THE LAMB
Zoltan Kodaly: LAUDES ORGANI (Premiered in Atlanta in 1966)

The "South's Premier A Cappella Choir" departs from their tradition of short form a cappella classics and spirituals each spring for a celebration of great masterworks. Our 2008 concert features exciting and unusual works by Britten and Kodaly, and culminates in the World Premier of the choral setting of Atlanta composer William Dreyfoos' HOLOCAUST SONGS. This deelpy moving setting of poems from a Polish ghetto will also be featured by the Festival Singers in their 14th appearance at Charleston's Piccolo Spoleto Festival.

Music lovers from Virginia to Ohio to south Florida have journeyed to Charleston each year to hear the William Baker Festival Singers culminate their season in a festive performance at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival. Our 2008 program features William Dreyfoos' HOLOCAUST SONGS, along with modern works by Carolyn Jennings, Eric Whitacre and Rene Clausen. The program concludes with a rousing collection of the gospel songs and spirituals that have delighted Southern audiences for nearly a quarter century.
