Matthew Edwards is a music educator specializing in piano and choral/vocal music, with an additional interest in composing music that suits the needs of school music ensembles, students, churches, and communities. He resides in metro Atlanta, where he teaches piano at M. D. Roberts School of the Arts in Clayton County, serves as the music director and organist of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Snellville, and teaches private organ lessons through Clayton State University’s Music Preparatory School. His recent compositions include a cantata for choir and chamber orchestra (“In dir ist Freude”) and a concertato on “Come, ye thankful people, come.” Upcoming publications include The St. Matthias Book of Descants and “Home is where the heart is” for SATB choir and piano.
Before moving to Georgia, Matthew was the organist and choir director of St. Matthias Episcopal Church in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He earned his Master of Arts (M.A.) in Secondary Education (Music Education, Vocal/Choral Emphasis) with Dr. Marvin E. Latimer, Jr. and his Bachelor of Music (B.M.) in Organ Performance with Dr. Faythe Freese, both at The University of Alabama.
Current professional affiliations include the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), the National Education Association (NEA), and the American Guild of Organists (AGO) as a lifetime member.
