Robert Abbott, MM

Kansas City Bronze Associate Music Director

Associate Music Director Robert Abbott was appointed to membership in Kansas City Bronze in 2022, and as Associate Music Director in 2025. A Minnesota native, he holds the Bachelor of Music Education from Evangel University in Springfield, Missouri, and the Master of Music in Oboe Performance from the UMKC Conservatory of Music.

Mr. Abbott’s career in music education and music ministry is extensive, with choral and instrumental positions in Shawnee Mission, Kansas, Escola Graduada de Sao Paulo, Brazil, the American International School in Lisbon, Portugal, and the International Protestant Church in Saigon, Vietnam. For many years he was Music Director at the First Presbyterian Church of Branson, Missouri. He formed and directed the Branson Chorale community chorus. With the Messiah Project of Springfield, MO, he led international tours to Japan, Bulgaria, Greece, Poland and Russia. He has been active in handbell leadership for 49 years, establishing accomplished handbell ensembles for children, youth and adults, from Branson to Lisbon to Valencia, Spain. His ensembles have participated in Area 8 events of the Handbell Musicians of America.
