Having participated in the 2005 season of Atlanta's original summer choir, The Summer Singers of Atlanta, Lynn Swanson created the Cobb Summer Singers on the same model for the summer of 2006.  The Marietta-based chorus was an immediately success as it performed a wide variety of sacred classics and spirituals, along with secular folk music.  After the 2008 season, Cobb Summer Singers became an ensemble of the William Baker Choral Foundation.  Gala performances in the chorus' first decade included Mozart: Solemn Vespers & Missa Brevis in D, Schubert: Mass in G, Mendelssohn: Elijah, and Handel: Dettingen Te Deum, Coronation Anthems & Israel in Egypt, among a host of other choral-orchestral masterworks.

In 2017, the Cobb Summer Singers became the Baroque Summer Institute and presented a well-received program of Bach cantatas, including BWV 4 "Christ lag in todesbanden" and BWV 140 "Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme."  Lynn Swanson relocated from the Atlanta area following the 2017 performance.

For 2019, the Cobb Summer Singers returns to its original format with a convenient weekly schedule of seven Tuesday rehearsals, a Saturday dress rehearsal, and a gala concert.  Our guest conductor for the 2019 season is one of America's most respected choral artists, Dr. Norma Raybon, legendary conductor of the Spelman Glee Club. Under Dr. Raybon's leadership the collegiate women's chorus performed across the United States and appeared in the annual "Christmas With Robert Shaw" gala concerts.  The CD recording, Sisters in Song, and the television special with the Morehouse Glee Club at Christmas, have won national praise for the singing from Atlanta.  Dr. Raybon now serves as Music Director for the St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Atlanta, the nation's largest historically African-American Episcopal congregation.

Rehearsals of the Cobb Summer Singers will be Tuesday evenings, 7:15-9:30, beginning June 4, in the Choir Rom of the First Presbyterian Church, 189 Church Street (near the Square) in Marietta, Georgia

Registration opens March 1.  As always, no audition is required for membership. All singers, 16 & over, are invited to participate.
