Monday’s in the Vocology Lab – 2026 Offerings

Our year-round Monday night series offers focused, practical sessions designed to support healthy singing, vocal technique, pedagogy, and real-world application. These classes meet in the IHS&VR Vocology Lab and are ideal for singers, teachers, and curious learners seeking guided study in a small-group setting.

What to Expect

Monday offerings rotate throughout the year and include topics in vocal function, diction, warm-ups, range and registers, private voice teaching, the aging voice, IPA for singers, and adolescent voice change. The series is designed so singers and teachers may join individual sessions based on interest and need.

2026 Summer Voice Labs

This five-week summer series offers concise, practical 50-minute classes in June and July. Sessions are designed for developing and experienced singers alike and provide direct, useful guidance in healthy singing, diction, breath, stamina, range, and style.

Tuesday, June 23, 2026 – Voice Lab 1: Singing with Endurance, Efficiency, and Ease

Thursday, June 25, 2026 – Repeat Session

Join in a 50-minute class designed to prepare the voice for sustained and demanding singing. Explore strategies for building vocal stamina, managing fatigue, and maintaining efficiency during long rehearsals or performances. Participants will work through practical exercises to support endurance while protecting vocal health.

Tuesday, June 30, 2026 – Voice Lab 2: Breathing for Singing

Join in a 50-minute class designed to help you strengthen your vocal technique. Tackle the key singing concept of breath and work through your real-life vocal challenges with expert insight and actionable tips. Tailored for developing and experienced singers alike.

Week 3

Tuesday, July 7, 2026 – Voice Lab 3: Mastering Ecclesiastical Latin for Singing the Masterwork

Join in a 50-minute class designed to support confident and accurate singing in Ecclesiastical Latin. Learn essential IPA symbols, pronunciation rules, and stylistic considerations commonly encountered in choral masterworks. Participants will apply these concepts directly to repertoire for improved clarity and ensemble cohesion.

Thursday, July 9, 2026 – Voice Lab 3: Mastering Gospel Diction for Singing

Join in a 50-minute class designed to explore the stylistic and linguistic features of gospel singing. Participants will work with vowel shaping, consonant articulation, and rhythmic delivery to support clarity, authenticity, and expressive communication. Emphasis will be placed on balancing stylistic choices with healthy vocal production, allowing singers to engage the genre with both confidence and respect for its musical traditions.

Tuesday, July 21, 2026 – Voice Lab 5: Navigating Range and Registers

Thursday, July 23, 2026 – Repeat Session

Join a 50-minute relaxed class designed to help you strengthen your vocal technique. Explore the coordination of registers and strategies for navigating range transitions with ease. Participants will work through practical exercises to build consistency, flexibility, and confidence across the voice.

A five-session in-person professional development course covering breathing for singing, navigating range and registers, and shaping sound. Graduate-level CEUs are also available for an additional fee payable to Mid-America Nazarene University.

Applied Professional Choral Performance – Free Enrollment Limited to qualifying William Baker Festival Singers - Up to 3 CEU or 60 PD

This course offers an immersive experience in professional-level choral artistry through active participation in the William Baker Festival Singers. Participants will perform advanced repertoire with stylistic integrity while applying healthy singing techniques grounded in voice science.
